How to Do Barbell Bench Press

  1. Lie flat on a bench with your feet firmly on the floor.
  2. Grip the barbell slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  3. Unrack the bar and lower it to your mid-chest with control.
  4. Press the bar back up until your arms are fully extended.
  5. Keep your shoulder blades retracted throughout the movement.
